Hybrid Remote Work Platform for Worx Squad

All-in-one hybrid work platform with 3D meeting rooms and 2D virtual offices - 16 weeks to v1, 10,000+ downloads, 80% of users feel closer to colleagues.

We built Worx Squad, a hybrid remote work platform that eliminates the need for multiple communication and collaboration tools. The platform combines 3D immersive meeting rooms for video conferences, 2D dynamic virtual offices built with Konva.js, built-in video and audio calls, task management, document sharing, and team recognition features - reaching 10,000+ downloads with 80% of users reporting feeling closer to colleagues.

Collaboration costs

Time to v1: First production version with 3D meetings, 2D offices, calls, and task management delivered in 16 weeks (24 weeks total including post-launch features).

Downloads: Total downloads across web and desktop (Electron) platforms within 6 months of launch.

Team connection: Percentage of active users who reported feeling closer to colleagues after adopting the platform.

Collaboration costs: Reduction in tool subscription and context-switching costs by consolidating multiple platforms into one.

We tried every remote work tool on the market and none of them solved the real problem - people feeling isolated. The 2D virtual office changed everything. Our team actually hangs out there between meetings now.

The Challenge

What we were up against

Managing communication and engagement across dispersed teams required juggling Slack for messaging, Zoom for calls, Trello for tasks, and Google Drive for documents - creating context switching overhead that fragmented workflows and slowed decision-making.

Remote and hybrid employees felt disconnected from their teams and company culture. Video calls alone could not replicate the ambient awareness and spontaneous interaction of a physical office, leading to isolation and declining morale.

Project updates were inefficient and scattered. Status information lived across multiple tools with no centralized view, forcing managers to chase updates through separate channels and compile reports manually.

There were no built-in mechanisms for team recognition, wellbeing check-ins, or cultural rituals - the informal moments that build trust and belonging in co-located teams.

Built 3D immersive meeting rooms using realistic rendering technology where participants join video conferences in a spatial environment - creating a sense of physical presence that flat video grids cannot match, with spatial audio and customizable room layouts.

Developed 2D dynamic virtual offices using Konva.js where team members are represented as avatars in a persistent office floor plan. Employees can see who is available, walk up to someone's desk for a quick chat, or join a huddle room - recreating the ambient awareness of a physical office.

Added team recognition and wellbeing features including peer kudos, mood check-ins, and celebration moments - embedding the cultural rituals that remote teams lose when they move away from a shared office.

Frequently asked questions about this project

A 2D virtual office is a persistent, interactive floor plan where each team member is represented as an avatar. Employees move their avatar around the office, and proximity determines interaction - walk near a colleague to start a voice chat, enter a meeting room to join a group call. Built with Konva.js for smooth canvas rendering, the virtual office recreates ambient awareness (seeing who is available, who is in a meeting) that video calls alone cannot provide.
